Collection: Kidney, Urinary & Prostate Health
Kidney, Urinary & Prostate Health
The kidneys, bladder, and prostate are deeply interconnected. When one is under stress, the others often follow. This collection brings together the most trusted botanical extracts, amino acids, and nutrients traditionally used to support kidney function, urinary tract health, bladder comfort, and prostate wellbeing — for both men and women.
Who This Collection Is For
- Those experiencing urinary urgency, nocturia, or bladder discomfort
- Anyone supporting kidney function and healthy fluid elimination
- Men managing prostate health or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
- Women dealing with recurrent UTIs, interstitial cystitis, or bladder irritation
- Anyone looking to support the urinary tract naturally and preventatively
How to Build Your Protocol — Step by Step
Step 1 — Address the Acute Issue First
If you are currently experiencing a UTI, bladder pain, urgency, or nocturia, start here:
- Uva Ursi (Bearberry) — Take as directed on the label. Uva Ursi works best in an alkaline urinary environment. Avoid acidic foods and drinks (coffee, citrus, alcohol) while using it. Use short-term (up to 2 weeks) for acute support.
- Glycine Capsules — Take 3g (check your capsule dose) twice daily with water. Clinical research supports this dose for reducing urgency, nocturia, and bladder pain. Can be used ongoing.
- Lancet Extract — Add if you have recurrent UTIs or suspect P. mirabilis involvement. Take as directed. Can be combined with Uva Ursi for a stronger antimicrobial effect.
Hydration is essential. Drink at least 2–3 litres of filtered water daily throughout this protocol. The botanicals work by flushing the urinary tract — water is the vehicle.
Step 2 — Support the Kidneys & Lymphatic System Daily
Once the acute phase has settled (or if you are working preventatively), shift to daily kidney and lymphatic tonic support:
- Dandelion Leaf Extract — Take in the morning with water. Acts as a gentle, potassium-sparing diuretic to support kidney filtration and fluid elimination without depleting minerals.
- Cleavers Extract — Take alongside Dandelion. Cleavers supports the lymphatic system and reduces inflammation in the urinary tract. A classic pairing in Western herbal medicine.
- Juniper Berry Extract — Add if kidney gravel, sluggish kidney function, or fluid retention is a concern. Take as directed. Avoid in cases of active kidney inflammation or during pregnancy.
- Nettle Extract — A mineral-rich tonic that supports kidney function, reduces inflammation, and provides iron and trace minerals. Excellent for long-term daily use.
Step 3 — Address the Root Cause (Prostate, Hormonal & Structural Support)
For men with BPH, prostatitis, or ongoing urinary issues, or for anyone with a hormonal component to their urinary health, add targeted support:
- Saw Palmetto — Take daily with food. Inhibits 5-alpha reductase to reduce DHT-driven prostate enlargement. Allow 4–8 weeks for full effect. Best taken consistently rather than intermittently.
- Zinc — Take daily with food. The prostate has the highest zinc concentration of any organ. Zinc supports testosterone metabolism, prostate cell integrity, and immune function. Do not exceed recommended dose to avoid copper imbalance.
- Progest-E (Progesterone) — For men with prostatitis or estrogen dominance, apply topically as directed. Based on Dr. Ray Peat’s research, progesterone counteracts excess estrogen’s effect on prostate tissue. For women, Progest-E supports hormonal balance that may underlie bladder sensitivity and urgency.
Ongoing Maintenance
Once symptoms have resolved, a simple daily maintenance stack might include Dandelion Leaf, Nettle, Glycine, and Zinc — all well-tolerated for long-term use. Revisit the acute protocol (Step 1) at the first sign of recurrence.
Always consult your healthcare practitioner before starting a new supplement protocol, particularly if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
Key Botanicals & Nutrients
Glycine Powder | Glycine Capsules
A peer-reviewed clinical study found that oral glycine (3g twice daily for 8 weeks) significantly improved nocturia, urgency, urge incontinence, and bladder pain — with no adverse events. Glycine acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the spinal cord, directly regulating the micturition reflex.
Uva Ursi (Bearberry)
Arbutin, its active compound, is converted to hydroquinone in the urinary tract, where it exerts antimicrobial action. Traditionally used for UTIs, cystitis, and urethritis.
Juniper Berry
A traditional diuretic and urinary antiseptic. Supports kidney filtration and helps flush the urinary tract.
Nettle (Urtica dioica)
Supports kidney function and urinary flow. Research supports its use in BPH — nettle root inhibits SHBG binding and has anti-inflammatory effects on prostate tissue.
Cleavers (Galium aparine)
A traditional lymphatic and urinary tonic used to support the kidneys, reduce urinary tract inflammation, and assist elimination via the lymphatic and urinary systems.
Dandelion Leaf
A gentle, potassium-sparing diuretic that supports kidney filtration and urinary output without depleting electrolytes.
Saw Palmetto
The most researched botanical for prostate health. Inhibits 5-alpha reductase, reducing DHT conversion — the primary driver of BPH.
Zinc
The prostate contains the highest concentration of zinc of any organ. Essential for testosterone metabolism, prostate cell health, and immune function.
Progest-E (Progesterone)
Based on Dr. Ray Peat’s research, progesterone has been used for prostatitis in men and supports hormonal balance in both sexes.
Lancet (Plantago lanceolata)
Demonstrated activity against Proteus mirabilis — a key bacterial driver of recurrent UTIs and a pathogen linked to rheumatoid arthritis.
