Nattokinase
Nattokinase is a naturally occurring enzyme derived from natto — a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans that has been consumed for over a thousand years. The enzyme was first identified and isolated by Japanese researcher Dr. Hiroyuki Sumi in 1980, and has since been the subject of extensive scientific research.
This product provides 2000 Fibrinolytic Units (FU) per 100mg capsule — the standard unit of measurement for nattokinase potency. Sourced from non-GMO soy.
About Nattokinase
Nattokinase is a serine protease enzyme — a class of enzymes that act on proteins. It is naturally produced during the fermentation of soybeans by the bacterium Bacillus subtilis natto. It is one of the most extensively researched food-derived enzymes in cardiovascular and circulatory wellness research.
Natto itself has been a staple of traditional Japanese cuisine for centuries, particularly in the Kanto region, and is associated with the longevity traditions of Japanese dietary culture.

Key Roles of Nattokinase
Cardiovascular Wellness
Nattokinase has attracted significant research interest for its potential role in cardiovascular wellness. It works by breaking down fibrin — a protein involved in blood clotting — which may help promote better blood flow and support healthy circulation. Research has explored its potential to reduce the risk of cardiovascular conditions associated with impaired fibrinolysis.
Blood Pressure Support
Some studies suggest that nattokinase may help support healthy blood pressure levels by promoting vasodilation and improving endothelial function — the health of the inner lining of blood vessels. Healthy endothelial function is a key factor in long-term cardiovascular wellness.
Circulation Enhancement
By supporting the body's natural fibrinolytic (clot-dissolving) processes, nattokinase may help improve circulation and blood flow to various organs and tissues. This makes it a subject of interest for those focused on circulatory and cardiovascular wellness.
Anti-inflammatory Properties
Nattokinase may also have anti-inflammatory properties that benefit cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing. Chronic low-grade inflammation is a recognised factor in cardiovascular and metabolic health, and nattokinase's enzyme activity may play a role in modulating inflammatory processes.
Expert & Research Interest
Nattokinase has been discussed by a number of prominent researchers and clinicians in the context of cardiovascular and longevity medicine, including:
- Dr. Peter Attia (physician and longevity expert, The Peter Attia Drive Podcast and Huberman Lab) — known for his extensive work on health optimisation and longevity, including natural approaches to cardiovascular wellness
- Dr. Layne Norton, PhD (scientist and physique coach, Huberman Lab and Found My Fitness) — known for research-based discussions on nutrition and supplementation
- Dr. Craig Koniver MD (Huberman Lab) — known for discussions on health supplements and their clinical applications
This research interest reflects the growing scientific attention nattokinase has attracted as a food-derived enzyme with potential cardiovascular applications. This does not constitute clinical endorsement of this product.
How to Use
Take 1–2 capsules between meals, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Best taken away from food for optimal enzymatic activity.
Important Precautions
Do not take if you are:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Taking blood-thinning medications (including warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or other anticoagulants) — nattokinase has fibrinolytic activity and may interact with these medications
- Allergic to soy or soy-derived products
- Scheduled for surgery — discontinue at least 2 weeks prior
Consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you have any cardiovascular condition, bleeding disorder, or are taking any medications.
