Organic Astragalus Root Extract (Astragalus membranaceus)

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus), known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Huang Qi (黄耆), is a perennial herb native to northern and eastern China, Mongolia, and Korea, with a documented history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine spanning over 2,000 years. It is one of the most important tonic herbs in the Chinese Materia Medica and is classified as a superior herb — the highest category in TCM — meaning it is considered safe for long-term use and valued for its broad tonic and adaptogenic properties.

Astragalus belongs to the Fabaceae (legume) family and is classified as a Qi tonic, immune tonic, and adaptogenic herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western herbal medicine. It is one of the most widely used and extensively researched tonic herbs in contemporary botanical science. This extract is prepared in 60% alcohol from certified organic Astragalus root.

Naturally Occurring Compounds

  • Astragalosides — naturally occurring triterpenoid saponins unique to Astragalus species; the primary bioactive compounds in Astragalus root; Astragaloside IV is the most extensively researched of these compounds
  • Cycloastragenol — a naturally occurring triterpenoid aglycone derived from astragalosides; one of the most researched naturally occurring compounds in contemporary botanical science
  • Polysaccharides — including astragalans; naturally occurring immunomodulatory polysaccharides that are a key component of Astragalus’s traditional immune tonic properties
  • Flavonoids — including calycosin, formononetin, and isoflavones characteristic of the Fabaceae family
  • Amino acids — including γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and other naturally occurring amino acids
  • Trace minerals — including selenium, zinc, and iron naturally present in the root
