Organic Turmeric Extract (Curcuma longa)

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizomatous herb native to South and Southeast Asia, with a documented history of use in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine spanning over 4,000 years. It is one of the most widely consumed medicinal herbs in the world and has become one of the most extensively researched plants in contemporary botanical science, with thousands of peer-reviewed studies investigating its phytochemical profile and biological properties.

Turmeric belongs to the Zingiberaceae family alongside Ginger and Cardamom. Its characteristic golden-yellow colour is due to naturally occurring curcuminoids — the primary bioactive compounds in Turmeric root. This extract is prepared in 60% alcohol from certified organic Turmeric root.

Traditional Herbal Use

Inflammatory & Musculoskeletal Wellness

Turmeric is one of the most important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine for inflammatory and musculoskeletal wellness, with a documented history of use spanning thousands of years. It is classified as a bitter tonic, carminative, and anti-inflammatory herb in traditional herbal practice and is one of the most widely used herbs in both Ayurvedic and Western herbal medicine for musculoskeletal and joint wellness.

Digestive & Liver Wellness

Turmeric has a long traditional history of use in Ayurvedic and Western herbal medicine for digestive and liver wellness. It is classified as a cholagogue and hepatic herb in traditional herbal practice — categories of herbs traditionally used to support bile flow and liver wellness. It is a foundational digestive herb in Ayurvedic medicine and a common inclusion in traditional herbal formulas for liver and digestive support.

Antioxidant & Metabolic Wellness

Turmeric is one of the most widely used herbs in traditional practice for antioxidant and metabolic wellness. Its exceptionally high curcuminoid content has made it one of the most researched herbs in the context of oxidative stress and metabolic wellness, and it is a foundational herb in Ayurvedic formulas for metabolic support.

Cardiovascular & Cognitive Wellness

Turmeric has a long traditional history of use in Ayurvedic medicine for cardiovascular and cognitive wellness. It is one of the most important Rasayana herbs in Ayurvedic practice for brain and nervous system wellness and is a common inclusion in traditional formulas for cardiovascular and cognitive support.

A Note on Bioavailability

Curcumin is naturally poorly absorbed when taken alone. Traditional Ayurvedic preparations always combined Turmeric with black pepper (Piper nigrum) — whose naturally occurring piperine significantly enhances curcumin absorption. For enhanced bioavailability, consider combining this extract with a black pepper supplement or consuming with a meal containing black pepper.

How to Use

Take 20–30 drops under the tongue or in a little juice or water, up to 2–3 times daily, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. For enhanced bioavailability, take with a meal containing black pepper or fat.

Precautions

Not recommended during pregnancy in medicinal doses without practitioner guidance — culinary amounts are generally considered safe. Consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you have gallstones or bile duct obstruction — Turmeric stimulates bile flow. May interact with blood-thinning medications — consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you are taking anticoagulants. High doses may cause gastric irritation in sensitive individuals.
