Mediterranean Oregano Infused Oil

This infused oil features wildcrafted Mediterranean Oregano (Origanum minutiflorum / Origanum vulgare subsp. hirtum) — the high-carvacrol variety traditionally used in herbal practice, distinct from common culinary oregano. The dried herb is infused into organic raw coconut oil, creating a stable, shelf-stable preparation that captures the naturally occurring volatile compounds of the plant.

This is an infused oil — not a steam-distilled essential oil. The infusion process extracts a broad spectrum of the plant's naturally occurring compounds into the coconut oil carrier, making it suitable for both internal and topical use.

Naturally Occurring Compounds

Mediterranean Oregano (Origanum vulgare subsp. hirtum) is characterised by its exceptionally high carvacrol content — the primary naturally occurring phenol in this variety. Premium specimens can contain 85–93% carvacrol in the volatile oil fraction. Additional naturally occurring compounds include:

  • Carvacrol — the dominant phenolic compound; responsible for the characteristic pungent aroma
  • Thymol — a naturally occurring phenol also found in thyme
  • Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) — a sesquiterpene also found in Gumpii and many other botanicals
  • Pinenes, limonene, ocimene — naturally occurring terpenes
  • Carnosol — a naturally occurring diterpene phenol

About the Carrier: Organic Raw Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is chosen as the carrier for its superior stability and long shelf life compared to other vegetable oils. It is naturally high in medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) including lauric acid. Note: coconut oil hardens in cold temperatures — simply place the bottle in warm (not boiling) water to liquefy before use.

Traditional Herbal Use

Internal Use

Oregano has one of the longest histories of use in traditional Mediterranean herbal medicine. It has been used for centuries as a culinary and medicinal herb across Greek, Italian, and Middle Eastern traditions. Traditionally used to support digestive wellness, respiratory health, and general vitality. Consult your healthcare practitioner before internal use.

Topical Use

Oregano oil has a long traditional history of topical application for skin wellness. For topical use, apply a small amount directly to the area of concern. Always patch test first — carvacrol can be potent on sensitive skin. Dilution with additional coconut oil is recommended for sensitive areas.

Topical Skin Stack

One of our favourite topical combinations for skin wellness support. Mix together in the palm of your hand or a small dish and apply to the area of concern:

  • Oregano Infused Oil (this product) — a few drops
  • Wilga Extract — a few drops
  • Gumpii Extract — a few drops
  • Aloe vera gel — as the base carrier; use a pure, unfragranced aloe vera gel

Apply to the affected area morning and night after cleansing. Patch test before first use. This combination has been used by our customers for skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, and sun spots. Always consult your healthcare practitioner for persistent or severe skin conditions.
