Pure Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO₃), commonly known as baking soda, is a naturally occurring alkaline compound with a long history of traditional use in health, household, and culinary applications. It is one of the most widely used and versatile compounds in traditional wellness practice, valued for its alkalising properties and broad range of applications. This is food grade Sodium Bicarbonate — pure, additive-free, and suitable for internal and external use.

Traditional & Household Uses

Digestive Wellness

Sodium Bicarbonate has a long traditional history of use as a digestive antacid. Its naturally alkaline pH neutralises excess gastric acid, making it a classic traditional remedy for occasional digestive discomfort and heartburn.

Alkalising Wellness

Sodium Bicarbonate is classified as an alkalising compound and has a traditional history of use for urinary and systemic pH wellness, commonly used in herbal and naturopathic practice.

Detox & Cleansing Applications

Widely used as a natural produce wash to help remove surface residues from fruits and vegetables — one of the most effective and widely recommended natural produce cleaning agents.

Topical & Bath Applications

Used in foot baths, body baths, and topical applications for skin and foot wellness. Its alkalising and deodorising properties make it a classic inclusion in traditional wellness bath preparations.

What the Research Says

A 2018 peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Immunology (Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University) revealed a remarkable mechanism at work when sodium bicarbonate is consumed regularly.

After drinking water with baking soda for just two weeks, the population of immune cells called macrophages shifted significantly — from primarily those that promote inflammation (called M1), to those that reduce it (called M2).

Macrophages are the body’s frontline immune responders — best known for their ability to consume cellular debris from injured or dead cells. They are among the first to arrive when the immune system is called into action. The shift from M1 to M2 macrophages represents a meaningful move from a pro-inflammatory to an anti-inflammatory immune environment.

This shift appears to be triggered via mesothelial cells lining the spleen, communicating through the chemical messenger acetylcholine — essentially signalling the immune system to stand down from unnecessary inflammatory responses. The anti-inflammatory effect was sustained for at least four hours in humans and three days in rats.

Researchers suggest this mechanism may hold potential for autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.

How to Use

Internal (digestive wellness): ¼ to 1/2 teaspoon dissolved in a glass of water, taken as needed or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Not recommended for long-term continuous internal use without practitioner guidance.

Produce wash: Add 1 teaspoon to a bowl of water, soak produce for 10–15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Foot or body bath: Add 2–4 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate along with some magnesium chloride, Epsom salts, MSM, sea salt and borax to warm foot bath water and soak as desired. for foot/nail fungus or foot odour add 5 drops of tea tree oil and 1/2 3mg hydrogen peroxide.

The feet have a higher concentration of sweat glands than almost anywhere else on the body — roughly 250,000 per foot — and a vascular network that sits close to the skin surface. That combination makes them one of the most effective transdermal absorption sites humans have.

Precautions

Not recommended for long-term continuous internal use without practitioner guidance. Not recommended for those on sodium-restricted diets — Sodium Bicarbonate contains sodium.
