Sodium Ascorbate — Vitamin C Powder
Sodium Ascorbate is a buffered, non-acidic form of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) — ascorbic acid bound to sodium to create a pH-neutral salt. It is pharmaceutical grade, 100% water-soluble, and tasteless in solution, making it a practical choice for those who find ascorbic acid too acidic on the stomach or tooth enamel.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential water-soluble vitamin and one of the most important antioxidant nutrients in the human body. It cannot be synthesised by humans and must be obtained through diet or supplementation.
About Sodium Ascorbate vs Ascorbic Acid
Standard Vitamin C supplements use ascorbic acid, which is acidic and can cause digestive discomfort at higher doses. Sodium Ascorbate is the sodium salt of ascorbic acid — it provides the same ascorbate ion (the active form of Vitamin C) but at a neutral pH, making it gentler on the digestive system and tooth enamel. Each gram of Sodium Ascorbate provides approximately 889mg of ascorbic acid equivalent.
Nutritional Role of Vitamin C
- Antioxidant activity — Vitamin C is one of the most important water-soluble antioxidants in the body, neutralising free radicals in aqueous environments and regenerating other antioxidants including Vitamin E
- Collagen synthesis — Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for the enzymes prolyl hydroxylase and lysyl hydroxylase, which are required for the synthesis of hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine — key components of collagen. It is essential for the formation and maintenance of skin, blood vessels, bone, cartilage, and connective tissue
- Immune wellness — Vitamin C is involved in the function and proliferation of immune cells and is one of the most widely used nutrients for immune wellness support
- Iron absorption — Vitamin C enhances the absorption of non-haem (plant-based) iron when consumed together
- Adrenal function — the adrenal glands contain one of the highest concentrations of Vitamin C in the body; it is involved in the synthesis of adrenal hormones
- Redox activity — Vitamin C participates in the body’s redox (oxidation-reduction) system as both an antioxidant and a pro-oxidant depending on context and concentration
Dosing Guide
Sodium Ascorbate is a fine powder — dissolve in water before consuming. It is tasteless in solution.

Precautions
Consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you are taking medications of any kind or have a medical condition. High doses of Vitamin C may cause loose stools — reduce dose if this occurs. Contains sodium — those on sodium-restricted diets should account for sodium content. Not recommended in high doses for those with kidney stones or haemochromatosis without practitioner guidance. If symptoms persist, consult your healthcare practitioner.
