Wildcrafted Mediterranean Thyme Botanical Extract (Thymus vulgaris)

Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a perennial aromatic herb native to the Mediterranean basin, with a documented history of culinary and medicinal use spanning over 3,500 years across Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and European herbal traditions. It was used by ancient Egyptians in embalming preparations, by Greek physicians as a medicinal herb, and by Roman soldiers who bathed in thyme-infused water for vitality. It is one of the most important respiratory herbs in Western herbal medicine and is included in the German Commission E monographs for its traditional use in respiratory wellness.

Thyme belongs to the Lamiaceae family alongside Oregano, Sage, and Rosemary. It is classified as an expectorant, antispasmodic, and carminative herb in Western herbal medicine, with a particularly well-established traditional history of use for respiratory, immune, and digestive wellness. This extract is wildcrafted and prepared in 60% alcohol from Mediterranean Thyme aerial parts.

Naturally Occurring Compounds

  • Thymol — the primary bioactive phenolic compound in Thyme; a naturally occurring monoterpenoid phenol; the key marker of Thyme quality and potency; one of the most extensively researched naturally occurring plant compounds in the context of respiratory and immune wellness
  • Carvacrol — a naturally occurring monoterpenoid phenol closely related to thymol; present alongside thymol in Mediterranean Thyme; also extensively researched
  • Rosmarinic acid — a naturally occurring caffeic acid ester; a key antioxidant compound in Thyme and other Lamiaceae herbs
  • Flavonoids — including luteolin, apigenin, and naringenin
  • Volatile oils — including p-cymene, γ-terpinene, and linalool; contributing to Thyme's characteristic aroma and traditional properties
  • Ursolic acid and oleanolic acid — naturally occurring triterpenoids present in the aerial parts
  • Tannins — naturally occurring astringent compounds
